CLEAN – Main Bedroom
Your bedroom should be a place you feel comfortable in, making it easier for you to fall asleep and have the desire for a little ‘romance’. Mine got to the point that I was dumping ‘stuff’ on my bedside table and dressing table. I would wake and the first thing I saw was the clutter, I felt overwhelmed and disappointment with myself on how I let the house go. I didn’t enjoy waking up each day and seeing clutter, it’s not the right mindset for a good start to a day. Make your room a priority, to create a calm and tidy place so tomorrow you will have a better attitude when waking up.
Cleaning task
Today’s cleaning task is to do the following in your bedroom:
[wlchecklist name=’Day2CleanKitchen’]
- Clean mirrors using a microfibre cloth and vinegar
Please don’t do the following tasks today, they are coming soon:
- The bathroom
- Your wardrobe
Here are a few additional posts that will help you:
- Bedroom makeover – from cluttered to a relaxing bedroom for Mum
- How to clean windows
- How to clean fans
- How often should you change your bed sheets?
- Killing dust mites in non-washable items
DECLUTTER – Bedroom surfaces
Do you have one too many ‘pretty things, nic nacs or ornaments’ on your bedroom surfaces. Having too many little things will make the task of cleaning harder and you more than likely won’t be dusting over your surfaces as often as you should. Today’s task is to look over what you have and re-evaluate if they need to be there.

ORGANISE – Top drawer of your bedside table
My bedside table doesn’t have much in it these days, years ago I would have magazines or a pile of kids drawings, now it’s a drawer of my items I use every night. My 2nd drawer is where I keep my treasures, cards and love letters from hubby, trinkets and memories of my grandparents and school years.
Use a drawer organiser set to keep all items from rolling around the drawer. I keep my drawer very minimal. In my top drawer I keep moisturiser for my hands, a photo of my Nan, candles, notepad and pen for those moments you get a great idea, nail file, chapstick and medication.

NEW HABIT – Make your bed each morning
After I wake up I leave the sheets down to air out the bed, have a shower, open my blinds and window, make bed, then get dressed. I find by making my bed it helps to keep the room looking tidy which stops me from dropping things on the bedroom floor or end of the bed.
The one habit I do each morning without fail is…. make my bed. I am a big advocate for making the bed each day. Not only will it make your room look nice and tidy, but you will feel a sense of accomplishment and organisation before your day has even begun. It’s unbelievable how such a simple 2-minute task can put you in a positive mindset for the rest of the day. I’ve put together a list of reasons why making the bed is worth your time and energy!
If you struggle to find the motivation to make your bed, then please read this post, a tidy 2-minute daily habit I do each morning, sharing the benefits of making your bed.
There’s something about having cushions on the bed that makes it look cozy and inviting and through the day tidy.

Just need to vacuum and clean the chairs otherwise I’m loving my tidy bedroom.
Any tips for wooden chairs as mine really should be cleaned daily with 3 little boys. Thanks for your time.
Kate, i would suggest using a microfibre cloth and an all purpose cleaner.
Best way to clean wooden chairs:
I have homemade antibacterial wipes on hand and use them all the time. They are brilliants, there was a mark I couldn’t get off my sons wall, but the wipes got it off!! Here’s the recipe: http://theorganisedhousewife.com.au/cleaning-2/reusable-homemade-antibacterial-wipes-diy-natural-disinfecting/. I have just purchased a 2nd set of of microfibre cloths so when I have finished using the last wipe I can make a new batch straight away. Print off the recipe card and blutak it to the back of your sink door for easy reference. So you can use these wipes to clean up after the kids eat after dinner and it will pick up all crumbs and food splats!
Responsibility Ideas:
Here’s a great list that will help: http://theorganisedhousewife.com.au/organising/kids-rooms/age-appropriate-chores-for-kids/
My kids have helped me around the house since they could walk, putting away their toys and dirty clothes.
Cluttered husband:
I hear you, my husband is a hoarder and can’t keep areas tidy at all. He loves that I keep the house tidy and clean, but he just can’t get a grasp on it himself. I absolutely love my husband dearly but over the years I have learnt to pick my battles, between his office desk, leaving lunch box on the kitchen bench, messy shed etc are just a few things I close my eyes to.
There was a time that I would help him tidy his office, but to be honest, it’s his papers, his files and he knows where everything is, once I get in there I disorganise his organised mess. So I have learnt to overlook his desk (which is hard as it’s in the same room as I work), but I think tactically, I make sure his desk is not visible for when people walk past the room, so it’s around the corner. Purchase some storage boxes (that you like!!) and get him to put his files etc in there).
The shed…. I attempted this once too and got into a bit of trouble…. apparently like his desk, he knows where everything is. I would love to walk in there and not have to leap over the lawn mower etc to get something, but again this is his domain. Instead, I have put a little bucket near the shed door I can reach with my gardening tools, and a little area in my garage which has a few things I need like a screw driver (cute pink kit from Ikea), tape measure etc.
I hope this helps.
Did most of this at the weekend, not ready to change the sheets yet – I do it regularly anyway?. But I still won’t get it finished today. Too hard on a work day.
Sounds like you are on to it Anita! Great job.:)
Yay! Done ?
Wow awesome work, Kylie!
Hi! I can’t download the day 2 daily sheet? It says I need to be logged in, which I am. I can download the other two. Is there a problem with the link?
Thanks,
Louise
PS I always try to make my bed every day as it just makes the room cleaner and neater!
Hi Louise, can you please try logging out and then log back in. If that doesn’t work please email me at challenge@theorganisedhousewife.com.au and i will look into it for you.
Hi Kat,
It is working now. I didn’t need to log out.
Thanks,
Louise
Fantastic, great too hear. Thanks for letting me know Louise.:)
Eeeek I’m falling behind already! I think I will aim to do the task over 2 days to make it more manageable 🙂
Corinne that is perfectly fine. Whatever works and fits in best with your family. You have lifetime access so you can always go back and complete at a later stage.
It’s ok Corinne I’m falling a little bit behind as well. Thank god for catch up days. ?
Catch up days are great! As long as you are making some progress you are doing great, Deb.:)
Glad I’m not the only one Deb! Gotta love catch up days!!!
I may be crazy but I did most of day 2 on day 1 as well! Taking advantage of the kids being away! Thanks for the guidelines and inspiration!
Whatever works well for you Jenny. I think if you have the time go for it, it frees up other days if you need them later on in the challenge.
Day 2 finished 🙂
Yay.:)
Did a little of this task but will have to come back to finish
A start is better than nothing 🙂
Love the 5 min task today – horrified to see how grubby my dining chairs actually were! A well timed task as I have friends coming for dinner next week!
They do get grotty don’t they, when my kids wre younger I used to always have milk spills on them.
I’m catching up – bit by bit – 🙂
