CLEAN – Main Bedroom
Your bedroom should be a place you feel comfortable in, making it easier for you to fall asleep and have the desire for a little ‘romance’. Mine got to the point that I was dumping ‘stuff’ on my bedside table and dressing table. I would wake and the first thing I saw was the clutter, I felt overwhelmed and disappointment with myself on how I let the house go. I didn’t enjoy waking up each day and seeing clutter, it’s not the right mindset for a good start to a day. Make your room a priority, to create a calm and tidy place so tomorrow you will have a better attitude when waking up.
Cleaning task
Today’s cleaning task is to do the following in your bedroom:
[wlchecklist name=’Day2CleanKitchen’]
- Clean mirrors using a microfibre cloth and vinegar
Please don’t do the following tasks today, they are coming soon:
- The bathroom
- Your wardrobe
Here are a few additional posts that will help you:
- Bedroom makeover – from cluttered to a relaxing bedroom for Mum
- How to clean windows
- How to clean fans
- How often should you change your bed sheets?
- Killing dust mites in non-washable items
DECLUTTER – Bedroom surfaces
Do you have one too many ‘pretty things, nic nacs or ornaments’ on your bedroom surfaces. Having too many little things will make the task of cleaning harder and you more than likely won’t be dusting over your surfaces as often as you should. Today’s task is to look over what you have and re-evaluate if they need to be there.

ORGANISE – Top drawer of your bedside table
My bedside table doesn’t have much in it these days, years ago I would have magazines or a pile of kids drawings, now it’s a drawer of my items I use every night. My 2nd drawer is where I keep my treasures, cards and love letters from hubby, trinkets and memories of my grandparents and school years.
Use a drawer organiser set to keep all items from rolling around the drawer. I keep my drawer very minimal. In my top drawer I keep moisturiser for my hands, a photo of my Nan, candles, notepad and pen for those moments you get a great idea, nail file, chapstick and medication.

NEW HABIT – Make your bed each morning
After I wake up I leave the sheets down to air out the bed, have a shower, open my blinds and window, make bed, then get dressed. I find by making my bed it helps to keep the room looking tidy which stops me from dropping things on the bedroom floor or end of the bed.
The one habit I do each morning without fail is…. make my bed. I am a big advocate for making the bed each day. Not only will it make your room look nice and tidy, but you will feel a sense of accomplishment and organisation before your day has even begun. It’s unbelievable how such a simple 2-minute task can put you in a positive mindset for the rest of the day. I’ve put together a list of reasons why making the bed is worth your time and energy!
If you struggle to find the motivation to make your bed, then please read this post, a tidy 2-minute daily habit I do each morning, sharing the benefits of making your bed.
There’s something about having cushions on the bed that makes it look cozy and inviting and through the day tidy.

Day 2 done, feeling positive
What a beautiful feeling, great job Rachael.:)
Finally finished! albeit flustered as I am 2 days behind! Catching up as best i can today!
Have cleared my room of clutter – but now feels a bit sad in there as not very homily! may need to go shopping for something! Not sure what though!
Great job, Cara! A little shopping sounds nice.:)
Hi Kat,
For some reason I am unable to download the daily sheet day 2. Wont let me even when I put in my member details.
Rachel, can you try logging out and then log back in and see if it works then. If not please email me challenge@theorganisedhousewife.com.au and i will see what is happening.
Day 2 done on day 3!! But I am getting there. My son goes to his dad’s tomorrow so I should be able to get in and on top of things over the next couple of days.
Great planning ahead, Angela. You are doing great.:)
I heard a great tip for the utensils. Use a cup or jug of some sort to keep them on the bench near the stove or somewhere and as you use the item wash it and put it into the drawer. After a few months or 6 then what’s left is seldom used so purge them. That way you only have what you need and frequently use in the drawer.
I haven’t quite caught up to begin the challenges as I worked Monday and Tuesday. I have begun today though with repairing my fridge. [Sigh]. So
I hope to start but a few days later than everyone else.
Done!!! Yay… I’m on track ???
Woohoo!! Great news Louise.:)
Wahoo Day 2 done and dusted. Love my empty minimalistic top drawer, nothing can hide and get lost! Bring on day 3 ?
Love your work, Karen!
Calling it a night, only task not ticked is top bedside drawer. Will get to that first thing tomorrow after school drop-off!
Great job, Janine! You have done so well. Enjoy your well earned rest.:)
Feeling a bit disappointed in myself that I haven’ t managed to get more done. Have only finished bits & pieces of both Day 1 & 2 tasks. I was so looking forward to the challenge starting, but I think the reality of my life with young children means that so much of my time is used up tending to the baby & kids & just the everyday stuff like grocery shopping, cooking, school drop offs, etc that I realistically won’t be able to achieve as much as I would like. I would so LOVE to be able to tick off everything on time for each of the 20 days. I’m now trying to work out what would be the best plan of attack from here – should I focus on finishing tasks in order ie. Finish Day 1 kitchen tasks before moving on to Day 2 bedroom tasks and so on, in which case I’ll always be behind, or should I just do the Day 3 tasks tomorrow & leave the kitchen & bedroom tasks I’ ve missed for now & try to catch up on those at a later date….? I guess I’m a bit overwhelmed, but I really want to give this my best shot. Any suggestions ladies?
Hi Kelly, don’t be disspointed, everybody is different and it sounds like you have kids at home that will take your time away, and that’s find, mum first and foremost!
There are two ways about it, as you have access to the facebook group, if you are going to use that as encouragement and accountability, then perhaps continue with tasks for that particular day.
However, I would say if on for example today being Day 3 that if you haven’t finished today’s tasks tomorrow continue with the remianing Day 3 tasks, then start Friday with Day 5 and try and get back to Day 4 on the weekend or after Day 20, so in a sense you are feeling like you are continuing along with everyone else.
Well i didnt get all todays tasks done ( got to do my drawer, dust blinds, fan and vac floors tomorrow) as hubby only gets up for work at 2pm but i did manage to almost complete day 3’s tasks in the laundry while miss 2 played outside 🙂 just got to vac and mop tomorrow morning along with the rest of the house (Wednesday is daycare day so do my big tasks then) also got to dust and clean hubbies toilet. I did clean out under the laundry sink and polish my bedroom furnature too tonight 🙂
Kirra, it sounds like you are doing a wonderful job.:)
