CLEAN – Main Bedroom
Your bedroom should be a place you feel comfortable in, making it easier for you to fall asleep and have the desire for a little ‘romance’. Mine got to the point that I was dumping ‘stuff’ on my bedside table and dressing table. I would wake and the first thing I saw was the clutter, I felt overwhelmed and disappointment with myself on how I let the house go. I didn’t enjoy waking up each day and seeing clutter, it’s not the right mindset for a good start to a day. Make your room a priority, to create a calm and tidy place so tomorrow you will have a better attitude when waking up.
Cleaning task
Today’s cleaning task is to do the following in your bedroom:
[wlchecklist name=’Day2CleanKitchen’]
- Clean mirrors using a microfibre cloth and vinegar
Please don’t do the following tasks today, they are coming soon:
- The bathroom
- Your wardrobe
Here are a few additional posts that will help you:
- Bedroom makeover – from cluttered to a relaxing bedroom for Mum
- How to clean windows
- How to clean fans
- How often should you change your bed sheets?
- Killing dust mites in non-washable items
DECLUTTER – Bedroom surfaces
Do you have one too many ‘pretty things, nic nacs or ornaments’ on your bedroom surfaces. Having too many little things will make the task of cleaning harder and you more than likely won’t be dusting over your surfaces as often as you should. Today’s task is to look over what you have and re-evaluate if they need to be there.

ORGANISE – Top drawer of your bedside table
My bedside table doesn’t have much in it these days, years ago I would have magazines or a pile of kids drawings, now it’s a drawer of my items I use every night. My 2nd drawer is where I keep my treasures, cards and love letters from hubby, trinkets and memories of my grandparents and school years.
Use a drawer organiser set to keep all items from rolling around the drawer. I keep my drawer very minimal. In my top drawer I keep moisturiser for my hands, a photo of my Nan, candles, notepad and pen for those moments you get a great idea, nail file, chapstick and medication.

NEW HABIT – Make your bed each morning
After I wake up I leave the sheets down to air out the bed, have a shower, open my blinds and window, make bed, then get dressed. I find by making my bed it helps to keep the room looking tidy which stops me from dropping things on the bedroom floor or end of the bed.
The one habit I do each morning without fail is…. make my bed. I am a big advocate for making the bed each day. Not only will it make your room look nice and tidy, but you will feel a sense of accomplishment and organisation before your day has even begun. It’s unbelievable how such a simple 2-minute task can put you in a positive mindset for the rest of the day. I’ve put together a list of reasons why making the bed is worth your time and energy!
If you struggle to find the motivation to make your bed, then please read this post, a tidy 2-minute daily habit I do each morning, sharing the benefits of making your bed.
There’s something about having cushions on the bed that makes it look cozy and inviting and through the day tidy.

Would love to share my before and after pics but cannot access facebook page to do this. Can you please help.
Hi Ellen, I would love to see them!! The facebook group is available for the premium (extra $19.95) and deluxe packages, unfortunately not available in the basic package, please let me know if you want to upgrade and I can send you through a paypal invoice. I am sorry for the confusion.
Morning Kat, Thankyou for your responce to my query, I just wanted to say that I’m a little disapointed that in order to share pictures of my progress I have to pay more, I started this challenge thanks to my best friend Lin, who did it last year and seeing how much it helped her and her family, and she was actually the one who paid for my membership, and now to find out i cant share like she does is as I said disapointing.
I’m sorry Ellen that you feel that way, it was mentioned on the page where payment was chosen, there were 3 different packages to chose from: basic package, premium package with facebook group access and deluxe package with over 50% off a printable bundle. The facebook group is quite a lot of work for me to reply to every single person, many personal messages sent through the page and more, this is why it was included in the premium package. Lin is a very lovely friend to have purchased the challenge for you.
Juggling all this week’s tasks – have guests coming on Friday, so need to do the “main” spaces and guest room before they arrive. will have to finished the laundry next week. The washing machine is getting a work out today 🙂
Sort your days to suit you Michele, and you can come back and do the other tasks when it suits you 🙂
Day 2 complete and happy with results. Now to start day 1 (had to change order due to other commitments). Looking forward to crashing now in my lovely clean and uncluttered bedroom!
Yes that would of been a lovely way to start day one, with a beautifully tidy bedroom, I hope you enjoyed waking up in this new space 🙂
Thanks, yes they were machine washable. Just have a few spots of mould still which I will hand wash when I get the chance (they also came apart at a seam, maybe they were already like that… so I’ll sew that up sometime too!)
Our timber window sills are not painted, they look dry and discoloured. Not sure whether I should oil them or something??
Oh, and the bedroom window looks amazing now!! I have never cleaned curtains or windows before. This challenge is teaching me how things should be done – my mum never cleaned things so I really have been winging it all my life.
Fantastic Carla! Yes with your timber window sill i would give them a good oil, they will come up looking a million dollars!.:)
Hi Kat,
What’s the best way to clean mould off those netting type curtains? There has been junk piled up against the window so the mould on the window has transferred onto the curtains too.
Also how to clean the timber window sill?
(Sorry I’m a bit late getting to this part of the task, the bedroom has been nice and tidy for a week now but today is my chance to be more thorough!)
Thanks!
Hi Carla, I use the all purpose spray and microfibre cloth to clean the window sills. For your Curtains, are they machine washable? Have a look at this post for some ideas: http://theorganisedhousewife.com.au/cleaning-2/christmas-cleaning-clean-all-curtains-and-blinds/
day two done. on a roll. my children helped me so nicely. after I finished day ones tasks this morning, they were so inspired that I couldnot stop them. xxx
Love it, and I hope you can now wake up in a beautifully tidy bedroom.
Taken Curtains down to wash, removed an old blind and installed a new one, turned my mattress a couple of weeks ago when I washed all my blankets and protectors and mattress pillowtop toppers because winter was over, so that was one job I haven’t had to repeat.
Took my bookcase out of my room to the hallway and moved the duchess and brought in a blanket box for my winter clothes.
As I don’t have an office my room is my office so I sorted and discarded any paperwork I don’t need and put the rest in an expandable file.
You are onto it Julie! Well done.:)
I’m finally finished my bedroom. Work along with school holidays and also my small home business have meant this is taking me longer but the benefits are worth it. Up to the laundry now. Loving my tidy and clean kitchen and bedroom 🙂
Wonderful Jane.:) You are doing a great job!
Kat, I’m still on the high from cleaning my kitchen and waking up to it still clean. Now, baking this morning was once again fun. Cleaned up already of course.
Challenge might take me longer than 20 days, but hoping to achieve some more progress today as it’s my day off.
Thank you Kat for this challenge 🙂
Oh wonderful news Joanna! So happy to hear.:)
My mattress is marked as a “no turn mattress”. So does that mean I turn it top to bottom but not flipping it over? Or would you flip it anyway?
ooh wow I’m not sure Lorraine, what type of mattress is it? Perhaps is one made specially that you never have to flip it.
It’s a Myers mattress UK brand. Looked it up, you don’t have to flip the mattress, but you do have to ‘rotate’ it, as they put it. That’s definitely more achieveable!
Interesting!! That’s doable, flipping mattresses are hard work!
