CLEAN – Main Bedroom
Your bedroom should be a place you feel comfortable in, making it easier for you to fall asleep and have the desire for a little ‘romance’. Mine got to the point that I was dumping ‘stuff’ on my bedside table and dressing table. I would wake and the first thing I saw was the clutter, I felt overwhelmed and disappointment with myself on how I let the house go. I didn’t enjoy waking up each day and seeing clutter, it’s not the right mindset for a good start to a day. Make your room a priority, to create a calm and tidy place so tomorrow you will have a better attitude when waking up.
Cleaning task
Today’s cleaning task is to do the following in your bedroom:
[wlchecklist name=’Day2CleanKitchen’]
- Clean mirrors using a microfibre cloth and vinegar
Please don’t do the following tasks today, they are coming soon:
- The bathroom
- Your wardrobe
Here are a few additional posts that will help you:
- Bedroom makeover – from cluttered to a relaxing bedroom for Mum
- How to clean windows
- How to clean fans
- How often should you change your bed sheets?
- Killing dust mites in non-washable items
DECLUTTER – Bedroom surfaces
Do you have one too many ‘pretty things, nic nacs or ornaments’ on your bedroom surfaces. Having too many little things will make the task of cleaning harder and you more than likely won’t be dusting over your surfaces as often as you should. Today’s task is to look over what you have and re-evaluate if they need to be there.

ORGANISE – Top drawer of your bedside table
My bedside table doesn’t have much in it these days, years ago I would have magazines or a pile of kids drawings, now it’s a drawer of my items I use every night. My 2nd drawer is where I keep my treasures, cards and love letters from hubby, trinkets and memories of my grandparents and school years.
Use a drawer organiser set to keep all items from rolling around the drawer. I keep my drawer very minimal. In my top drawer I keep moisturiser for my hands, a photo of my Nan, candles, notepad and pen for those moments you get a great idea, nail file, chapstick and medication.

NEW HABIT – Make your bed each morning
After I wake up I leave the sheets down to air out the bed, have a shower, open my blinds and window, make bed, then get dressed. I find by making my bed it helps to keep the room looking tidy which stops me from dropping things on the bedroom floor or end of the bed.
The one habit I do each morning without fail is…. make my bed. I am a big advocate for making the bed each day. Not only will it make your room look nice and tidy, but you will feel a sense of accomplishment and organisation before your day has even begun. It’s unbelievable how such a simple 2-minute task can put you in a positive mindset for the rest of the day. I’ve put together a list of reasons why making the bed is worth your time and energy!
If you struggle to find the motivation to make your bed, then please read this post, a tidy 2-minute daily habit I do each morning, sharing the benefits of making your bed.
There’s something about having cushions on the bed that makes it look cozy and inviting and through the day tidy.

Day 1 completed. Kitchen looks fantastic. A few little things still to do but moving on. I am keeping a little list on the side of anything I don’t finish each day and if I have catch up time along the 20 days I will go back to this little list.
Day 2 – did all the washing for the bed this morning, hung it out and went to work. When I got home nothing had blown away in the Sydney wind but the birds always love to leave their markings on clean sheets. Not happy. But anyway, I’m off the finish the rest of the room. Until tomorrow girls.
ooh no that happened to us on the weekend too, first time every, I wasn’t happy either, wash again sadly. Hope you enjoy waking up to your tidy room tomorrow.
Day 2 done!! Yay! Can’t wait till hubby comes home and sees the difference. Starting to realise this challenge is not that easy at 36 weeks pregnant but the nesting instinct is strong lol
just remember to take it easy Rebecca and look after yourself, congrats on completing Day 2!!!
A tip that I discovered last time I did this challenge – during this challenge I used a lot of vinegar and other cleaning products. I have weak fingernails anyway, but found all the products really took a further toll on my nails. So my tip is to use gloves (even if you’re only using plain vinegar). I tend to use the disposable gloves and go through a few pairs a day.
Also most of the time I only need one glove on at a time. I tend to only use the one hand to wipe, while the other hand lifts items and squirts spray.
great tip Darra 🙂
Weather forecast – clearing showers, not good drying weather and I don’t have a clothes dryer. What is your suggestion.
unfortunately loos like you have to leave a few tsks till the weekend 🙁
You can always whip down to the laundromat. I know nothing is as good as sheets dried on the line but also nothing is worse than having loads of washing drying inside your house on clothes horses. There is very little room in my place and it is so depressing having them there for days. I keep my $1 and $2 coins for use in winter at the laundromat.
I can’t believe what a difference it made to clear up knick knacks in the bedroom and to clear out the top drawer of my bedside dresser. Chucked A LOT out.
OMG OMG OMG! I’m slightly ecstatic…. Ta da! I have just completed the task of my top bedside drawer!
Some background… This is my 2nd go at this challenge, on the 1st go in March this year, I managed to procrastinate on the top drawer and “save it till later”, and never got it done. Now this time round, although this is a task from Day 2, I have just finished it today! But you know what, I’m not gonna be down on myself for being so far behind, I am actually feeling really good that I have come this far!
Yay me!
Awesome job, Janine!!! So proud of you, and what a wonderful feeling it is.:)
So……I’m a bit behind. Was away for 4 days last week and then at work for the next 4, but I am determined to complete this challenge and will keep plugging away. The object of the exercise for me is to get myself and my house more organised no matter how long it takes. So bring it!!
Love your commitment and determination, Therese! You are doing an amazing job, keep up the fantastic work.
Day two has been completed.
Awesome work, Erica! They are on to it!.:)
I was a last-minute starter and have been playing catch-up, but have managed to get quite a bit done in spite of a busy schedule. Now, we have had news that a close family member is unwell so we are preparing to travel to Brisbane to visit her. At this stage we don’t know how long we will be away, but on our return home I will waste no time in picking up where I left off. I am enjoying completing the tasks and am already noticing the difference in my home.
Oh no i am sorry to hear one of your family members are unwell. I hope they are on the mend very soon.
Thank you, Kat. We arrived home tonight and tomorrow I will pick up where I left off.
I came home from work today with a mission, to clear my bedroom dresser surface and succeeded! I know it is now day four but I’m working through things as I manage to find the time in the evenings. I removed anything that had expired and I no longer used, donated a couple of items into my box for The Salvation Army, and managed to shift a heap of things into our ensuite cabinet, my dresser looks tidy and smart at last – a happy moment for me.
Love your commitment and determination, Dianne. Keep up with the fantastic work you are doing.:)
