DAY 2

by Kat - The Organised Housewife August 9, 2014October 11, 2017

CLEAN – Main Bedroom

Your bedroom should be a place you feel comfortable in, making it easier for you to fall asleep and have the desire for a little ‘romance’.  Mine got to the point that I was dumping ‘stuff’ on my bedside table and dressing table.  I would wake and the first thing I saw was the clutter, I felt overwhelmed and disappointment with myself on how I let the house go.  I didn’t enjoy waking up each day and seeing clutter, it’s not the right mindset for a good start to a day.  Make your room a priority, to create a calm and  tidy place so tomorrow you will have a better attitude when waking up.

Cleaning task

Today’s cleaning task is to do the following in your bedroom:

[wlchecklist name=’Day2CleanKitchen’]

  • Clean mirrors using a microfibre cloth and vinegar

Please don’t do the following tasks today, they are coming soon:

  • The bathroom
  • Your wardrobe

Here are a few additional posts that will help you:

  • Bedroom makeover – from cluttered to a relaxing bedroom for Mum
  • How to clean windows
  • How to clean fans
  • How often should you change your bed sheets?
  • Killing dust mites in non-washable items

DECLUTTER – Bedroom surfaces

Do you have one too many ‘pretty things, nic nacs or ornaments’ on your bedroom surfaces. Having too many little things will make the task of cleaning harder and you more than likely won’t be dusting over your surfaces as often as you should.  Today’s task is to look over what you have and re-evaluate if they need to be there.

ORGANISE – Top drawer of your bedside table

My bedside table doesn’t have much in it these days, years ago I would have magazines or a pile of kids drawings, now it’s a drawer of my items I use every night.  My 2nd drawer is where I keep my treasures, cards and love letters from hubby, trinkets and memories of my grandparents and school years.

Use a drawer organiser set to keep all items from rolling around the drawer.  I keep my drawer very minimal. In my top drawer I keep moisturiser for my hands, a photo of my Nan, candles, notepad and pen for those moments you get a great idea, nail file, chapstick and medication.

NEW HABIT – Make your bed each morning

After I wake up I leave the sheets down to air out the bed, have a shower, open my blinds and window, make bed, then get dressed.  I find by making my bed it helps to keep the room looking tidy which stops me from dropping things on the bedroom floor or end of the bed.

The one habit I do each morning without fail is…. make my bed.  I am a big advocate for making the bed each day. Not only will it make your room look nice and tidy, but you will feel a sense of accomplishment and organisation before your day has even begun.  It’s unbelievable how such a simple 2-minute task can put you in a positive mindset for the rest of the day. I’ve put together a list of reasons why making the bed is worth your time and energy!

If you struggle to find the motivation to make your bed, then please read this post, a tidy 2-minute daily habit I do each morning, sharing the benefits of making your bed.

There’s something about having cushions on the bed that makes it look cozy and inviting and through the day tidy.

5 MINUTES ONLY – Wipe over your dining chairs

I agree with a good habit to get into is to make the bed when you get up. Once this is done you tend to want the room to look it’s best! And who knew vacuuming the mattress, washing the linen and adding a few pretty pillows on the bed could make you feel so good?! Love this challenge.

It really does Megan, pillows just make it look tidy and in turn help you to want to keep it tidy 🙂

I found the kitchen fairly easy as I already keep that clean on a regular basis. But the bedroom is the worst room in my house. I hope I’m able to get all of it done today *fingers crossed*

Hi everyone,
What does everyone do with the little knick knack gifts that their young children make for mother’s day and father’s day? I feel terrible not using them, let alone throwing them out. For eg. a little mdf cut-out tree that they painted. I use it to hang jewellery on, on my dressing table at the moment but it does bother me and it’s a dust collector. Not good for our allergies! I don’t want to sound ungrateful or unappreciative at all so please don’t take me the wrong way. (Yes, I do overthink EVERYTHING!) Do I just have to get over it and let it go until they get older then put them away or throw them out?

Kirrily, i totally get where you are coming from. I keep mine in a treasured container in my wardrobe as i can’t bare to throw them out either. I often go throw and look at the special things they have made me over the years. Brings back lovely memories.:)

I had to start a day ahead on this one as I needed some help flipping the (king sized) mattress. I can’t begin to tell you what bliss is was to go to sleep on what felt like a new mattress, clean mattress protector and lovely crisp clean sheets. Who would have thought doing that would have made me so happy! I had the best night sleep I’ve had in a very long time! I also washed the valance which has reinforced the decision to become a shoes off house, it was also covered in scuff marks! My beside drawer is also sorted but I don’t dare touch my husbands, he is the hoarder in the family and has to do clear outs “in his own time”. It’s ok, he’s got the side of the bed by the wall so only he has to see it, I’m hoping he will sort it out after seeing what a difference clear space makes!

Reading through this and know its a bad habit of mine to just dump my clothes in the corner of my room and just grab as I need them. My aim after work, dinner and child being put to bed and lunches mad, plus the clean the kitchen routine done, is to get at least this area cleaned up and dusted! So a long night ahead lol I’ll just put my head phones on and jig along to my music as I do it. A little exercise is a plus too 🙂 Good Luck all

Oh dear! The bedroom will have to wait til I have a day off work. And until the weather improves to wash the bedclothes.
But I am looking forward to tackling it with gusto.
Being in this group is like having lots of helping hands. Not there in person but in spirit, knowing we are all in the same boat and doing our best. Lethargy and apathy have blossomed into enthusiasm, procrastination has morphed into motivation.
