CLEAN – Main Bedroom
Your bedroom should be a place you feel comfortable in, making it easier for you to fall asleep and have the desire for a little ‘romance’. Mine got to the point that I was dumping ‘stuff’ on my bedside table and dressing table. I would wake and the first thing I saw was the clutter, I felt overwhelmed and disappointment with myself on how I let the house go. I didn’t enjoy waking up each day and seeing clutter, it’s not the right mindset for a good start to a day. Make your room a priority, to create a calm and tidy place so tomorrow you will have a better attitude when waking up.
Cleaning task
Today’s cleaning task is to do the following in your bedroom:
[wlchecklist name=’Day2CleanKitchen’]
- Clean mirrors using a microfibre cloth and vinegar
Please don’t do the following tasks today, they are coming soon:
- The bathroom
- Your wardrobe
Here are a few additional posts that will help you:
- Bedroom makeover – from cluttered to a relaxing bedroom for Mum
- How to clean windows
- How to clean fans
- How often should you change your bed sheets?
- Killing dust mites in non-washable items
DECLUTTER – Bedroom surfaces
Do you have one too many ‘pretty things, nic nacs or ornaments’ on your bedroom surfaces. Having too many little things will make the task of cleaning harder and you more than likely won’t be dusting over your surfaces as often as you should. Today’s task is to look over what you have and re-evaluate if they need to be there.

ORGANISE – Top drawer of your bedside table
My bedside table doesn’t have much in it these days, years ago I would have magazines or a pile of kids drawings, now it’s a drawer of my items I use every night. My 2nd drawer is where I keep my treasures, cards and love letters from hubby, trinkets and memories of my grandparents and school years.
Use a drawer organiser set to keep all items from rolling around the drawer. I keep my drawer very minimal. In my top drawer I keep moisturiser for my hands, a photo of my Nan, candles, notepad and pen for those moments you get a great idea, nail file, chapstick and medication.

NEW HABIT – Make your bed each morning
After I wake up I leave the sheets down to air out the bed, have a shower, open my blinds and window, make bed, then get dressed. I find by making my bed it helps to keep the room looking tidy which stops me from dropping things on the bedroom floor or end of the bed.
The one habit I do each morning without fail is…. make my bed. I am a big advocate for making the bed each day. Not only will it make your room look nice and tidy, but you will feel a sense of accomplishment and organisation before your day has even begun. It’s unbelievable how such a simple 2-minute task can put you in a positive mindset for the rest of the day. I’ve put together a list of reasons why making the bed is worth your time and energy!
If you struggle to find the motivation to make your bed, then please read this post, a tidy 2-minute daily habit I do each morning, sharing the benefits of making your bed.
There’s something about having cushions on the bed that makes it look cozy and inviting and through the day tidy.

Bedroom is looking so clean and tidy. not 100% but will finish it off when my baby is in his own room :). 2 days down and feeling like I’m getting on top of everything.
that is wonderful, can’t wait for you to wake up tomorrow with your tidy room, hope it boosts your mood 🙂
At first I was blocked on how to start. Then as I chipped away with it, the task became more interesting and although i didn’t do very much (just washed the sheets, tidied my dressing table and my top drawer in the bedside chest) I feel really good about it.
what made you feel blocked Anna?
Good question Kat, I think it’s about feeling like do I deserve a lovely place to retire to in the evenings, somehow I sense that I’m looking for permission to move things that weren’t put away (and should have been put away) by someone else, and I think I’m hanging on to things because someone (most likely my Mum) gave them to me and I know they’ll ask about it the second I get rid of it even though it might not have been my taste. There is a box in my room of crockery that I don’t know what to do with but I can’t get rid of. So it has stayed there for several years.
I do appreciate everything on this course Kat
thankyou
it’s raining today so the sheets will have to wait but there is plenty of other things to get on with thanks Kat
It looks miserable here too Anna, I love these kind of days. Hope your able to achieve all you need to today.
I checked my email this morning and was happy to see this one, as I happened to have done all this last thursday! So im just fine tuning what I had done, running the duster over things again. I didnt do the windows or mirror so will do them today and then it will give me time to finish under the kitchen sink which I didnt quite get to yesterday!
Its only day 2 (plus the mini ecourse) but already feeling so much better with the clutter disappearing and sticking to morning/evening routine really is helping me start the day on the right note!
I love reading that you feel this way Victoria, music to my ears 🙂
Are you meant to achieve all this in one day?? Feeling overwhelmed!
Hi Heli, if you feel you can’t then just do one of the tasks, don’t feel you need to achieve all in the 20 days if you can’t. However, once you make a start you may just get the motivation to keep going, if you don’t have any distractions you may surprise yourself with how much you may achieve. Let me know how you go.
HI Kat
I’m yet to start my 20 day challenge, I’m just reading up to be a little ahead on things that I need to do – say I need storage containers etc. I have a couple of chords (hair dryer and straightener) hanging next to my bedroom dressing table and they’re black and very unsightly, do you have any recommendations to hide these for when I do my bedroom day.
Thankyou 🙂
Great question Kerry. At my old place I used to keep my them on a hook, but that didn’t hide the chords. At my new place I have them in a plastic basket I slide in and out when needed. Howards Storage World have some great caddies for the hair dryer. Kmart have some larger tins (in the laundry section) that could be tall enough to hold them and keep the cords tidily away??
Great suggestions thanks Kat 🙂
You could also store them in a magazine holder altogether.
Done and dusted!! (Pardon the pun 😉 ) also vac’d the whole house/stairs & mopped it, on top of 5 loads of washing!! And still played with my little girl throughout the day too!! Feeling like I’m killing it today!
Love it Samantha, you are on an awesome roll!!
Hi, today’s challenge asks us to clean curtains. I am not sure how to do this? My curtains are silk.
Hi Jackie, ooh wow I haven’t seen silk curtains before, I will send you an email with some tips 🙂
Well it’s 10.02 pm just finished my bedroom apart from windows and rolled into bed. I’m wrecked as I has to do yesterday’s challenge today too. It’s lovely sitting up in bed surveying my clean and tidy bedroom. Thank you for the motivation 🙂
wahoo!!!!! that is awesome that you are enjoying your achievements!
HI Kat, trying to find dates of start with this challenge. I thought day one was today? Can’t find start and finish dates anywhere? Oops!
Hi Sherelle, no but I have just emailed all current members to see if you wanted to join up again (free as you have the lifetime access) and I will send you the emails daily again so you can go through it again in time for Christmas.
Thankyou, I must say I knew you did one around this time but didn’t see dates attached anywhere. Thankyou!
