CLEAN – Main Bedroom
Your bedroom should be a place you feel comfortable in, making it easier for you to fall asleep and have the desire for a little ‘romance’. Mine got to the point that I was dumping ‘stuff’ on my bedside table and dressing table. I would wake and the first thing I saw was the clutter, I felt overwhelmed and disappointment with myself on how I let the house go. I didn’t enjoy waking up each day and seeing clutter, it’s not the right mindset for a good start to a day. Make your room a priority, to create a calm and tidy place so tomorrow you will have a better attitude when waking up.
Cleaning task
Today’s cleaning task is to do the following in your bedroom:
[wlchecklist name=’Day2CleanKitchen’]
- Clean mirrors using a microfibre cloth and vinegar
Please don’t do the following tasks today, they are coming soon:
- The bathroom
- Your wardrobe
Here are a few additional posts that will help you:
- Bedroom makeover – from cluttered to a relaxing bedroom for Mum
- How to clean windows
- How to clean fans
- How often should you change your bed sheets?
- Killing dust mites in non-washable items
DECLUTTER – Bedroom surfaces
Do you have one too many ‘pretty things, nic nacs or ornaments’ on your bedroom surfaces. Having too many little things will make the task of cleaning harder and you more than likely won’t be dusting over your surfaces as often as you should. Today’s task is to look over what you have and re-evaluate if they need to be there.

ORGANISE – Top drawer of your bedside table
My bedside table doesn’t have much in it these days, years ago I would have magazines or a pile of kids drawings, now it’s a drawer of my items I use every night. My 2nd drawer is where I keep my treasures, cards and love letters from hubby, trinkets and memories of my grandparents and school years.
Use a drawer organiser set to keep all items from rolling around the drawer. I keep my drawer very minimal. In my top drawer I keep moisturiser for my hands, a photo of my Nan, candles, notepad and pen for those moments you get a great idea, nail file, chapstick and medication.

NEW HABIT – Make your bed each morning
After I wake up I leave the sheets down to air out the bed, have a shower, open my blinds and window, make bed, then get dressed. I find by making my bed it helps to keep the room looking tidy which stops me from dropping things on the bedroom floor or end of the bed.
The one habit I do each morning without fail is…. make my bed. I am a big advocate for making the bed each day. Not only will it make your room look nice and tidy, but you will feel a sense of accomplishment and organisation before your day has even begun. It’s unbelievable how such a simple 2-minute task can put you in a positive mindset for the rest of the day. I’ve put together a list of reasons why making the bed is worth your time and energy!
If you struggle to find the motivation to make your bed, then please read this post, a tidy 2-minute daily habit I do each morning, sharing the benefits of making your bed.
There’s something about having cushions on the bed that makes it look cozy and inviting and through the day tidy.

The weather was not favourable yesterday or today, so i will try again tomorrow as i want to the doonas and mattress protector washed and dried in one day. I spent yesterday and today on the laundry – second worst room in the house and probably will still be working on it for a while. Will post pics once completed.
That makes sense Michele, less work for you.
I did most of my bedroom yesterday and it looks fab. I don’t know if anyone else has this problem, but my bedroom is my least used room (ignoring sleeping in my bedroom) and yet seems the most disorganised and messy. I think it’s a case of dump and run and deal with it later, and then later never seems to happen. However after yesterday’s effort, I’m hoping to turn over a new leaf and try and keep it nice and tidy. Wish me luck!
Love your work Felicity! Keep up the great work.:)
Back at work from 6am til 7pm today, so I’ll do my bedside table and the rest on the weekend but I’ll make my bed in the morning- for the first time in ages. Deep breath!
Fantastic Penelope!
Hi Kat,
I’m still waiting for my Facebook request to be activated to the 20 day challenge page. Are you able to do this for me when you have a spare minute? I would love to see what other’s are commenting on about the challenge. I’m enjoying the challenge so far and trying my best to keep up with it! Thanks, Lauren
Hi Lauren, you have been added to the group unfortunately you must have missed the notification. The way around this is for you to send a request through to this facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/theorganisedhousewife and i will add you manually. Thanks so much.
I finished cleaning the bedroom, but I had help. It was a very difficult task. I’m glad to be done!! 😀
Well done, great job.:)
Finally done! in Tassie we are still on school holidays so a mixed up day that has got me finishing cleaning at 8pm but I got it done!! 🙂 very happy
Nice work Sally.:)
This might be a silly question, but can you flip a pillowtop mattress?
If it is both sides, for sure. If it is just one side i would just turn the mattress around.
Mine is only one side – so I turn the mattress every season 🙂
Great idea Charlene
Is there a list of all the areas we’re going to be covering over the 20 days… I’m not sure whether to combine some rooms and/or deal with things under specific days or wait on the off chance it’s being covered – ie will we be sorting through and decluttering clothes? Is ensuite considered a part of the main bedroom? Will toyrooms be separate or should I consider it the lounge? Even if it’s just a list of the topic without the detail posted up on facebook, I just thought it might be helpful 🙂
We don’t have a list but we cover most ares of the home.
Thanks Kate – I figured you would, what I wanted though was a rough idea of when so that I could make the call on whether or not I needed to include some of my nooks and random areas in with particular rooms or areas that are within the challenge. One of the girls who had done the challenge before gave me a run down of what’s coming up so it’s ok, I can double up a couple of little areas I have with the upcoming areas within the challenge.
Had a great kitchen day yesterday as it was a public holiday, but think I will struggle all week as our kids are still in school holidays. Shame the challenge didn’t start when all states were back to school! Won’t let it dampen my enthusiasm though, will just have to save lots of the jobs until later.
Great job Amanda.:)
Phew!! Day 2 – Master Bedroom DONE!!! OMG – I have definitely gone over and beyond the tasks mentioned!! I now have an uncluttered room and it looks A-mazing!! Can’t wait for my partner to get home and see his reaction! Will be posting photos on fb later tonight!! Rubbish & Donate containers were overflowing!!!! I decluttered over half my clothes – i was really ruthless! I am sooo looking forward to going to bed tonight!!!
WOW Love your work Charlene, well done.:)
