Day 9

by Kat - The Organised Housewife August 9, 2014September 13, 2018

Clean – Ceiling fans

Cleaning task

Dust very easily accumulates on the fans.  Being they are on the ceiling we don’t notice. However, to prevent skin allergies and hay-fever it’s necessary to clean the build up off the blades. Find a complete list here on how to clean your ceiling fans.

Declutter – Junk Drawer

Aah the junk drawer most households have a junk drawer or a draw that can never be kept tidy. I don’t have a junk drawer, however my kitchen utensil drawer is the drawer that never seems to stay tidy.  Today’s task is to find the drawer that needs the most help, declutter and organise it so it not so much of a struggle to find things next time you visit it.  Find more details here about organising the kitchen drawers.

I also organised my sister in laws kitchen drawers read more here.

and here is my utensil drawer in our current home, this is before, visit the blog for the beautifully organised after.  The drawer dividers are available in my shop HERE.

Organise – Calendar/Diary

I know at the beginning of the year we buy a new diary and plan on using it, however life gets busy and the diary is put into a drawer to never be used.  Sound familiar?   Let’s get your diary out, be it either a:

  • Diary
  • Wall calendar
  • Calendar on your phone
  • Calendar on your computer

I use the calendar on my computer/phone together with my daily planner.

Today I would like you to spend time putting all of the following into your diary so are organised for future holidays, events or birthdays. Add the following items:

[wlchecklist name=’OrganiseDay9Calendar’]

New Habit – Unload dishwasher

As I mentioned yesterday, my kids unload the dishwasher, they usually do this after breakfast. Today’s task is to create the new habit of unloading the dishwasher, either getting the kids to do it each morning so you or the rest of the family can then load in the dirty dishes during the day or finding the time to do it while the kettle is boiling or your waiting for the toaster to pop.

[wlchecklist name=’NewHabitDay9′]

5 Minutes Only – Dust around the lights

Dust around the lights in each room of the house.

God bless all of you who are going so well!!
With work and trying keeping on top of things at home … I am struggling to even get any of this week’s tasks looked at, even getting a chance to look at face book, let alone printed or even started ,.. Yikes …
Looking forward to a better week next week! 😉 and getting some things done 😉

Alexis pick one task from the week that you haven’t had a chance to get to yet, and give it a go, even if it takes you 2 days, you have made progress 🙂

Morning, I found the sheet the other day with all the new habits listed and now I can’t find it again. I wanted to print it out and put it in my folder. Where do I find it? Sorry!

We have high ceilings so this is a job for my husband. I will be onto him this weekend. Will hopefully have it done by the end of the challenge. I like that I have the weekend to catch up on some of the tasks that I miss through the week.

Hi there,
I just downloaded and printed the 2016 planner and there are some mistakes in the dates.
I’m so disappointed and a little annoyed that I wasted all that paper and ink 🙁

OK, another day done!! I don’t have any ceiling fans, so vacuumed out my Air Cond vents instead. 🙂
I always have unloaded the dishwasher every morning as soon as I come into the kitchen (and before the girls wake up) – love that feeling of being able to start the day all fresh and clean – and to be able to pop the dirty dishes straight in throughout the day, ready to run again the next night. 🙂

I too am behind, due to busy work week, and my husband being away on business trip. So thanks for the encouragement, as it helps to take some of the pressure off that we place on ourselves. It’s hard not to compare ourselves to others. But, I am working my way through the tasks and have such satisfaction when I get it done. Thanks for walking us though each step. Its a blessing.

You are very welcome Lisa, just do the tasks one at a time when it suits you, it’s not a race, not a competition, it just here to fit around your family and to help make your home a little less hectic 🙂

Hi Kat

Great idea about putting everything in a calendar early. I usually do this on my calendar on the wall, but not my iPhone, which I will be doing this year. I don’t have ceiling fans as it is too cold, but I do have some lights which need dusting. Still busy decluttering in the kitchen. I have half filled my wheely bin!!!

Hi Kat,
my apologies for not posting last few days….I am falling behind as my business is flat out at the moment. I run Weightloss parties and provide free support, so after a couple of sunny days people are coming out of the woodwork to lose weight. I received your lovely postcard in the mail yesterday and felt so guilty for not keeping up. I just wanted to keep you posted and will be endeavouring to do what I can when I can. I hope this is ok. x

No Belinda, the card wasn’t to make you feel guilty, it was just a bit of encouragement. Don’t feel you are behind. Just take task within each day at a time, even if you spread one day into 3 that is fine, do it at the pace that suits you xx
