Clean – Ceiling fans
Cleaning task
Dust very easily accumulates on the fans. Being they are on the ceiling we don’t notice. However, to prevent skin allergies and hay-fever it’s necessary to clean the build up off the blades. Find a complete list here on how to clean your ceiling fans.

Declutter – Junk Drawer
Aah the junk drawer most households have a junk drawer or a draw that can never be kept tidy. I don’t have a junk drawer, however my kitchen utensil drawer is the drawer that never seems to stay tidy. Today’s task is to find the drawer that needs the most help, declutter and organise it so it not so much of a struggle to find things next time you visit it. Find more details here about organising the kitchen drawers.
I also organised my sister in laws kitchen drawers read more here.

and here is my utensil drawer in our current home, this is before, visit the blog for the beautifully organised after. The drawer dividers are available in my shop HERE.

Organise – Calendar/Diary
I know at the beginning of the year we buy a new diary and plan on using it, however life gets busy and the diary is put into a drawer to never be used. Sound familiar? Let’s get your diary out, be it either a:
- Diary
- Wall calendar
- Calendar on your phone
- Calendar on your computer
I use the calendar on my computer/phone together with my daily planner.
Today I would like you to spend time putting all of the following into your diary so are organised for future holidays, events or birthdays. Add the following items:
[wlchecklist name=’OrganiseDay9Calendar’]
New Habit – Unload dishwasher
As I mentioned yesterday, my kids unload the dishwasher, they usually do this after breakfast. Today’s task is to create the new habit of unloading the dishwasher, either getting the kids to do it each morning so you or the rest of the family can then load in the dirty dishes during the day or finding the time to do it while the kettle is boiling or your waiting for the toaster to pop.

5 Minutes Only – Dust around the lights
Dust around the lights in each room of the house.

While we are on calendar organising could we come up with an ‘Around the Home Job List’ of things that need to be down regularly but, I at least, tend to forget. I’ve been adding things to a list as you’ve mentioned them so far, such as turning the mattress, cleaning fans. I’ve added washing the filter on the vacuum cleaner. A ‘Master List’ of such jobs would be really useful.
Hi Lorraine, absolutely this will be at the end of the challenge for you all!.:)
Are we still going to be able to access all your tips that are on each day after the 20 days are finished? I am keeping up with the tasks but am not finding the time to read all the extra links etc but want to be able to.
Loving the challenge of it all x
Yes Judy you get lifetime access!
Awesome, I was hoping that, too. Thanks so much for this Kat, and for your lovely gift 🙂
You are very welcome xx
I am so behind this week with the challenges but today is so achieveable & has been neglected for so long. Will try to catch up some tomorrow & leave the rest to tack on at the end so I stay on track for next 2 weeks. Loved the surprise, lifted my spirits & determination to stay on task. Thank you Kat.
How wonderful Jill! So happy you liked your surprise, a perfect little inspiration to let you all know you are doing an amazing job. Have a lovely day.:)
Doing the exhaust fans and central heating vents instead as no celling fans here either.
Could you PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE tell me the lovely handwritten type font used on the daily task sheets? I have figured a way to add extra tasks straight onto the sheet and would like to match the fonts. I really didn’t think i was this OCD but clearly i am!
Also, i have decided to print out the PDF’s 2 on a page (awaiting fonts so i can print) and then laminate…i will then pop them inside the appropriate cupboards instead of the folder. This might be a good tip for others… will add it to the FB page.
Many thanks
I’ll email you Jo 🙂
Last summer my husband forgot the ceiling fan (metal) was on high and climbed up on the step stool resulting in gashed head down to skull bone. It took the doctor over an hour to clean all the hair out of the wound but thank goodness there was no grunge from the fan in there too. Lesson learned and all ceiling fans were cleaned thoroughly within a couple of days. Hope he learned to check that fans are off too!
Oh my goodness Roz!! That sounds so very scary for your hubby and yourself! Hope he is completely healed and your fans are lovely and clean.:)
We don’t have fans, only air conditoners. My junk drawer is tidy as well. Going to use this day to play catch up.
Fantastic Renee! Great to have a catch up day and hopefully a little time for yourself.:)
Yay no ceiling fans!! And I have a book I write all the days and dates in and I am already six months ahead!! I do have one junk draw that could have a little tidy might have to have a look at tomorrow and get ahead!! PS life changing already thank you so much x
Wonderful Melanie. Love that you are so organised and great job in keeping everything written down.
In this rental house we don’t have any ceiling fans. So i will do the spare room instead, as day 8 I plan on doing the craft room. This way both are done.
Wonderful job Amy! You are doing so well.:)
And this is where I get really excited…we moved from Darwin (with at least one fan in every room) to NZ a few years ago and there are NO CEILING FANS!!!! On the flip side, we do have a DVS system which gets quite grimy around the fan vents, so I will get up on a chair and do those on Day 9. 🙂
Wonderful Felicity!.:)
Was only looking at my fans last night thinking they need a clean 🙂 Awesome they are pencilled in 🙂
Great minds!!
