Day 12

by Kat - The Organised Housewife August 9, 2014September 19, 2018

Clean – Dishwasher

Our dishwasher is used once a day.  It usually cleans our breakfast dishes, dinner plates, cups, mugs and cutlery.  With all this, there isn’t enough room for anything else.  However, after time the dishwasher itself gets a little grotty and needs a good clean.

Cleaning task

Today’s cleaning task is to clean your dishwasher:

{The Organised Housewife} How to Clean a dishwasher 1

I use a clean & dirty dishwasher label to help alert the family if the dishes are clean or dirty.  I use this as a subtle way of saying “the dishes are clean, so please unpack the dishwasher for me!”

Label is available in my shop.  Use coupon code 20daysdish to download for FREE (saving $2.95) Click here to download

Declutter – Bathroom Cupboards

Todays task is to declutter your bathroom cupboards, throwing away items that are broken, you have not used in over a year or have expired ie perfumes, lotions and makeup all have an expiry date.  Find more details here about these expiry dates.

See how I organised one of my friends bathroom cupboards here.

Organise – Bathroom Cupboards

Make it easier for yourself to find something the next time you are looking in your cupboard.

Plastic storage baskets are great to hold lotions, soaps and shampoos so if they leak it’s easy to wipe clean.

I have a 2 draw dishwasher that is 1 year old and omg I could not believe the build up underneath. I ended up pulling it all apart to give it a good clean and now have them both running with vinegar.
Will do bathroom cupboards tomorrow they are pretty sorted but need a clean.

I’m sorry to pick this up. But check our dairy? I’m sure you mean diary! 🙂

Oh … My … Gosh!
That gunk under the door on the inside???
Gross gross gross but thank you! I would never have thought to look there!

Kat with the vinegar in the dishwasher? We just put it in there right? Does it evaporate or something? I feel like it’s still going to be there when the load is done?

Cheers

Hi Naomi, Yep it will be all gone once the cycle finishes. I just use 1 1/2 cups of vinegar in a glass meassuring cup and place it on the top shelf and when the cycle finishes all the vinegar will be gone and you will be left with a beautiful clean dishwasher.:)

Just to encourage Tally – I’m not “up to date” either! I work outside the home and have other commitments too as well as recovering from illness. The thing is that we have made a commitment and will see it through in our own time. I’m finding some tasks i have recently tackled and some that really require more time so just keep ticking them off as you go.

Well said Roz!.:) I couldn’t agree more. Ticking each one off as you go gives you a great sense of accomplishment and encourages you to start the next task in your own time.

Hi Kat,
I am also way behind with the challenge, am working and juggling family commitments also, however, I have been able to pick up some of your tips, like reorganising the laundry sorting, so I didn’t feel like I was washing all weekend. I have also kept my bedroom and ensuite clean and tidy, just don’t look in the cupboards. I appreciate the detail in your photos and instructions, this will take me a while, but I can definitely see some improvement.

That’s great Suzie, just picking up simple tips here and there to adapt in your home is a great start!

Hi Kat, Completely behind in this challenge .. Um Day 2 here. Everyone looks like they are doing great and I hope to go over all the comments each day that I do the task to provide Inspiration. However, I thought you were talking about a Facebook page as well for this group and I cannot find? It is probably blindingly obvious! Really wanting to sink my teeth in whilst it is calm here…well kinda calm and be involved online whilst the challenge is on – it is going waaaay too quick! Cheers

Hi Kat,
Thanks for the encouragement via snail mail!
How do you attach the dishwasher clean/dirty to your stainless steel dishwasher?
I bought a magnetic one and of course it doesn’t work.

Hi Katrina & Kate. Awesome tips for today, thank you! Just letting you know that the link for the “Clean & Dirty” Dishwasher label actually takes you to “Remove Your Shoes/Baby Is Sleeping” instead. Not a massive problem as we can still use the discount code on the correct sign. Anyhoo, just a heads up. Thanks for all the fantastic ideas you provide. My bathroom cupboard is a nightmare so I can’t wait to get stuck in! Cheers, Vxx
