Day 16

by Kat - The Organised Housewife August 9, 2014September 26, 2017

Clean – Wardrobe

Today we are sorting through the wardrobe, giving it a good clean, declutter and if you haven’t done so it may also be a good time to put away your out of season clothes.  I keep all my winter clothes in storage tubs at the top of the wardrobe as we don’t need jeans, jumpers or trackpants through the hot summer months.  Now everybody has different types of wardrobe, such as cupboards or walk ins so please adapt this cleaning task to suit yours.

Below is the general cleaning checklist:

[wlchecklist name=’cleanday16′]

Declutter – Your clothes

When you look into your wardrobe can you easily find a piece of clothing or is it jam packed?

  • Remove any items that need repairing, if you have time place them in a mending pile, if you don’t have time then consider if it’s worth getting it repaired professionally or give to charity for somebody that may have time
  • Have you worn it in the past 12-18 months? No, then consider donating it to charity
  • Does it still fit?  Too big, great work! Donate it to charity you don’t need them anymore!  Too small, if you are trying hard to return back to that size then place these items (not all as you need incentive) in a storage container in the top of your cupboard to make enough room for the clothes that fit you now.
  • Purge if you don’t like how it looks or makes you feel.

A fun way I determine if I have not worn anything for a period of time is turn the coathangers, find more details here

Organise – Wardrobe

Now that you have cleaned and decluttered your wardrobe take some time to organise it. Straighten up the piles of folded clothes, sort your clothes into like items such as dresses, tops, good pants, casual pants etc this will make it easier to find things.

This is my hubby’s side

To keep the shelves organised I created labels to make sure all clothes were put back where they belong.  These clothes labels are available in my shop as an instant download, you get pink and blue in the one pack, only $2.95.

I fold all my pants and gym clothes and hang all my singlets, shirts and dresses.  I keep spare toothbrushes, cotton buds, ladies products, etc in the 3 baskets.

These are the plastic tubs that I keep all our season clothes in… as well as all things christmas.

I also keep my jewellery in the wardrobe, read here how I organise my jewellery

New Habit – One in one out

If you find it hard to part with your clothing consider the one in one out rule we discussed a few days ago, this is also relevant to clothes.

Done.

Didn’t have much to do here though.
I’m just 2 months post partum and had already packed away clothes I don’t fit into presently.
I also arranged the top of the closet where i keep my handbags etc few weeks back, tidied it up again today.
I’ve been taking maternity clothing and other clothing weekly or so to the charity bin as I slowly fit into my old clothes

Mostly this week got away from me but I have been in the walk in wardrobe and it was choked before I got there now it looks much better. I have several storage boxes above my head for bags and jackets and clothes I don’t wear very often & I have taken an arm load of clothes i haven’t or don’t wear and they are in the car now for when I go out. Once they are in the car they are not allowed out till I get to an op shop. I’m about to put the sheets on the washing line (8.22am) have breakfast and go to the gym. While I’m out the clothes & books will go to the op shop (yay) and then I’ll choose one of the days lists to do for today that I missed but it doesn’t feel overwhelming just satisfyingly manageable.
🙂

love that you have a plan in place to remove the clutter and not allow it to sit around and accumulate. Anna you have done a simply amazing job getting through this challenge I have thoroughly enjoyed reading your journey and your daily updates, thank you.
