Clean – Bathrooms
Aah the bathrooms, if neglected they become quite grotty. The key to the bathroom is to routinely clean it which will then reduce the amount of scrubbing you will need to do. I clean my bathrooms each week and wipe over them daily.
Cleaning task
Today’s cleaning task is to do the following in the bathroom:

When my kids were younger there were mornings that my kids would rush brushing their teeth, I check that they have brushed well and if not they have to brush again. There was a stage that this was happening far too often so I created a chart (I love charts!!). I use these charts to mark off if they have brushed their teeth well, at the end of the week it is acknowledged and rewarded in something as simple as picking what movie we watch or which board game to play.
Brushing teeth charts are available in my shop. Click here to download

Declutter – Top of Bathroom Vanity
Note: Please don’t declutter or organise your vanity cupboards, this is planned for another day.
Remove as much as you can from your bathroom vanity to make it look tidier and easier for you to clean. I have always loved this caddy which we used as a toothbrush holder in the kids bathroom. It suctioned to the mirror to make it easier to wipe the bench. This holder was purchased from woolworths (can usually be found hanging in random aisles).

I try to keep the top of my bathroom vanity clutter free. Keeping handwash, toothbrush/toothpaste, makeup remover wipes.

Organise – Shower caddy
In the pre task challenges I got you to create a shower caddy, today I wanted to share with you why the shower caddy is separate to the cleaning caddy.
I adore my hubby, he has always cleaned our shower as I am very sensitive to a lot of chemicals. To make it easier for him I created the shower caddy which ideally needs to be a plastic peg basket as it goes in the shower with you and will get wet, the peg baskets have holes in the bottom for easy water drainage. I purchased the basket above from Howards Storage World a few years ago (it’s no longer in stock), however you can purchase peg baskets from most department stores like Big W and Target or even the local discount stores.
Over the past few years I have learnt that it’s not necessary to use chemicals in the bathroom, that vinegar/bicarb solution with a toothbrush or strong grout brush works wonders. So I have been able to clean the shower more often. I don’t necessarily clean it on a certain day, just a day each week that I know I have the time to spend a few extra minutes in there. It stays in the shower until the caddy and contents are dry and then I put it away in the evening.

New Habit – Clear and wipe your bathroom vanity
While you are brushing your teeth, put away all items left on your vanity. Once finished wipe your vanity bench and sink. I keep an absorbent cloth in my vanity cupboard. Wipe the vanity bench and sink each or every second day, rinse out the cloth and it dries overnight.

5 Minutes Only – Wash the lines on your clothes line
Wash the lines on your clothes line, removing all the dust and dirt build up.

Hi Kat 🙂 any tips for a stained toilet bowl? It just has a patch before it drains out the bottom that isn’t budging with bleach and brush!
This is a tough one Tam, I have in the past used Harpic Oxi Action, sprinkle around the bowl and sit, I used to sit mine overnight, but do follow the packaging directions. Hopefully this may work. http://www.harpic.com.au/products/deep-clean/harpic-oxi-action-bleach-crystals/
Tam, we had hard water stains in our toilet bowl (ugh!) and my hubby removed them by draining all water from bowl, then scrubbing with a pumice stone! It works and doesn’t scratch the enamel 🙂 Hope this works for you too!
Day 6 complete and its only lunch time! 😀
your on a roll Rebecca!
Bathroom and toilet looking great. I have a few dumping spots that have occured due to clean out of pantry and decluttering. Need to tackle these and make some tough decisions about what to do with excess and surplus stuff. We have such a tiny house and it is really hard to fit everything in.
Good luck Lindy.
Hi Kat, I’ve been keeping up so far, even though the floors are not completely done. I have a larger than normal size house with 3 kids under 5. I have 3 bathrooms including the ensuite. We only use the shower in the ensuite but the main bathroom shower and bath get dusty and dirty. Should I clean one bathroom at a time or do all at the same time? the two used mainly are on the same level. Thanks xx
To try and keep you from getting too overwhelmed just clean the bathrooms you have the time to do today Shaghig, then do the remaining after the challenge.
Hi Kat,
I am running far behind due to some “personal things”, however, I am printing off the sheets and am tending to get there, even if it is takes me 2/3 months.
Pat
Take your time through the tasks Patricia, you have lifetime access so you can view the tasks as you need.
Hi there have been searching on your website but thought maybe you could link me to a relevant article. I know we’re not decluttering yet but I had to buy a new hairdryer and it’s all pretty and new and I don’t want it getting knocked around in the cupboard or lying around on the vanity. If you have one can you link the post about organising hair styling tools please? Thank you.
Hi Natasha, I actually haven’t published a blog post about that, however at my old house my straightener and dryer had a drawer of their own in my bathroom cabinet. Now I have a bizarre little nook in the vanity, possibly for a towel, I use this to store them now. I’ve just asked the community on facebook see what they suggest: https://www.facebook.com/organisedhousewife/posts/1180498045317476
Awesome thanks. Will click through! 🙂
Bathroom looks great. So easy when you know where to start, sometimes it can be a little daunting.
Thanks Kat
Love hearing this!!
Hi Kat,
Just trying to download the bathroom clean checklist and it keeps saying it is an invalid format?
I have had no problem with the other downloads?
Thanks
Hi Holly, ooh no, I’ve checked it and I can get it working, but I will email you a copy now 🙂
Hi Kat,
I’m trying to download and print the bathroom clean checklist for day 6. I haven’t had a problem with any other download etc. It keeps sending me back to the log in screen and telling me that The content is for members only. I am a member!
Thanks
Al good. Logged out again logged in again (have done this a few times) and it has now worked. Thanks
I’m a day behind, but that’s ok, I will catch up. Bathroom looks beautiful, and the washing lines have had the first clean in forever. I never thought to do that. Great exercise all this cleaning and organising.
It is a great form of exercise, Karen! So proud to hear you are doing so well, everything sounds so beautifully clean.:)
Don’t worry I’m 3 days behind and now have to work the next 2 days. If I can finish this challenge in 40 days I’ll be happy, then repeat.
