PRE CHALLENGE TASK 5

by Kat - The Organised Housewife August 9, 2014September 25, 2017

Dishes in the sink, dirty clothes in the laundry, toys on the living room floor or shoes scattered all through the garage…does this sound familiar? We all take pride in our home, but at times it can all get too much. Perhaps you have a baby and struggling to create a new routine, you’re working full time, you’re wanting to spend time with family rather than cleaning, you’re not feeling yourself, lacking energy, you’re a hoarder… or maybe you are just overwhelmed with everyday life.

The clutter around us can have a negative impact on our ability to focus. However, by clearing the clutter from your home, it can help you feel clearer, mentally as well.

CREATE SOME GOALS

I want to ask you a few questions. Write down your answers as this will help you to create goals for yourself and determine what’s most important to you, where to start and what you want to achieve in your home.

  1. When at home I want to feel…
  2. I want to spend more time doing…
  3. I want an area of my home I can…
  4. The most disorganised cupboard in my home is…
  5. The first thing I want to organise is…
  6. I don’t need anymore, but can’t part with…
  7. I always lose…
  8. I want to be organised by…

CREATE SORT BUCKETS

During the next 4 weeks we will be organising, purging excess items and throwing away rubbish. In order to do this have on hand a number of buckets, bins, bags or storage containers.  Create your own labels with marker and paper, or download and print the labels available in the downloads below, you will need to label them as follows:

Keep: something you find in one room that belongs in another.  You could put it away once you find it, but if you are time poor put it in the keep bin to put away later

Donate: an item that you no longer want or need but is still in working order for somebody else to use

Sell: items that you can sell if you are going to have a garage sale or sell online

Rubbish: items that are broken, can’t be mended, doesn’t work or is rubbish

Done! I’m a day late, but I am ready to start day 1! I have an enormous challenge to get my house decluttered and organised, I am hoping to stay on track as best as I can, but I am determined to finish each step before moving on to the next one which is more realistic & achievable I think…. Let the revolution begin!!

Thank you 🙂 I am so relieved to have a system to put in place! I have spent my adult life trying to be organised & always having trouble. Last year at 40 years old I was diagnosed with ADHD & I realised why I have had such a hard time! I have spent months figuring out what needs to be done but struggling to figure out how… Having guidance through the process is exactly what I need to reach me the skills I haven’t been able to develop myself 🙂

Briony I can only imagine the struggles you have been going through, emotionally and to get everything done while battling with your mindset too. So glad this system can help you 🙂

Have answered yr goal questions Kat.
I haven’t brought any sorting buckets as initially am going to use black garbage bags.
Not actually going to set anymore goals at the moment as this is enough for me at this present time.
I feel am now ready to start in the morning.
I popped down my total completion date as 31.12.18 which for me is a realistic task date as I work full time 5 days a week and suffer from chronic depression and anxiety.

garbage bags is another great way to go, tie them up and trash straight away or have them ready to donate!! Love that you have set your goals and know your capabilities. I’ll be here always so you can comment when you want and I’ll reply and help you through the areas. I suffer from anxiety too so can understand the importance of setting your limits. Have you checked out my playlist I shared in today’s email. Play the music and get lost in the beat and do what you can 🙂
