Day 14

by Kat - The Organised Housewife August 9, 2014September 26, 2017

Realistically the office is one room that I am sure will take a good week to declutter and organise. As I have only dedicated one day to it we are only going to do the basics, then gradually like all the other rooms in the house, when you have some spare time use it to organise another area within the office, ie the filing cabinet, cupboards etc.

Clean – The Office

Below is the general cleaning checklist:

[wlchecklist name=’CleanDay14′]

Declutter – Office Desk

The office desk can easily become messy with paper clutter such as bills, receipts, kids school notes etc or it could be your dumping zone leaving it a very messy workspace.  I know myself I can’t work when my desk is a mess.

Todays task is to declutter your office desk and your top desk drawer, that’s it, nothing more as we don’t have time for a complete overhaul. This in turn will hopefully improve your productivity when your at your desk.

Steps to clear your office desk:

[wlchecklist name=’DeclutterDay14′]

I use the drawer organisers to keep keep the top drawer tidy. Here are my essentials that I use every day, in the next drawers down I keep my label machine, notepads and other stationery items.

I keep all my bills in my bill organiser, read more about it here.

After I come home from a day of shopping I take all my receipts out of the shopping bags and file them into my receipts box.  Every few weeks (weekly would be preferable, but sometimes time gets away from me), we go through our receipts and enter our spending into our budget.

Organise – Organise office desk

Now that you have decluttered your office desk it will be easier and more motivating to keep it tidy.

There is something about a candle that I find very calming, having it flickering next to my computer screen helps give me some clarity and calm me down if I feel a little frazzled.

I am so looking forward to getting my office sorted tomorow. It is a mess and one of the areas that I seem to have the most trouble keeping tidy as it always seems to be the dumping ground for any papers, projects etc that I haven’t got around to sorting out and the pile just seems to keep growing.! Here’s hoping that I can achieve a clean and tidy space (just like yours).
Once I have finished the challenge, I would like to sort my finances as mentioned in the Day 14 post. You mentioned that we could purchase a Budget and Bill Organiser at your shop. I have found the Budget, but cannot seem to locate the Bill Organiser. Your help would be welcomed.

Done.

We don’t have an office, rather a nook in the spare room/toy room which was cleaned and organised last week.
I just tidied it up and made sure the drawers were still organised.

Good thinking doing that room instead, it would have been easy to just leave it as you don’t have an office so well done you!

This was the main room I was dreading. So glad it is done now and have a blank vision board. Just waiting for inspiration, not sure what to fill it with…

Fill it with quotes, holiday destinations, furniture ideas, things you want to do in your future 🙂

Hi Kat,

Absolutely loving your tips for organising bills, receipts and paperwork – it has always been my biggest challenge. Just wondering though, where/how do you store your receipts at the end of each month. I know you keep them for 3-6 months but how and where do you keep those during that time?
Thank you!!

I keep all my receipts in the plastic sleeves at the back of the bill organiser, and after 3 months I throw out the receipts I no longer need, ie items I have used and can’t return, clothes, homewares etc. I keep all big purchase item receipts for a few years in case it breaks.
