Clean – The cornices
Despite getting my house regularly pest controlled I still get the odd little bugs nestled into my cornices.
Cleaning task
Clean away any dust or bugs hanging from your cornices or ceilings. There are a few different ways you can clean them:
- With a cobweb broom
- A stocking over the end of a normal broom, will make it easier to clean the broom
- Use the brush attachment on your vacuum cleaner
- If you don’t have a brush attachment secure a sock or rag to the end of your vacuum nozzle with a rubber band
Our house gets quite a few little bugs. I have found this method has been effective to keep them away:
- Wrap a rag/cloth around the head of a cobweb brush or broom
- Add a couple of drops of lemon essential oil onto the rag/cloth.
- Use the broom head to clean away the cobwebs, wiping over the cornices to leave behind the lemon oil to deter them from returning.

Declutter – Kids artwork
This would have to be one of the hardest decluttering tasks, purging kids artwork. I get little scraps of paper with notes, beautiful drawings, huge pieces of butchers paper with scribbles all over, and cardboard creations. Unfortunately, we can’t keep them all.
When the kids give me their artwork I’ll display it for awhile on the fridge. I then take it off the fridge and decide to keep it or throw it. It’s hard letting go of their creations but honestly some are better than others and if it’s not truly special I put it in the recycle bin when they aren’t looking. The ones to keep go into a box I have dedicated for each of the kids artwork (I got these from kikki.k a few years ago). Which I go through when I have time and use with some of the ideas mentioned below.

- Use as wrapping paper
- Post to grandparents, aunts or uncles
- Laminate and use as a placemat
- Scan and make as wallpaper on your computer

Hubby is very particular about insects and cobwebs so he cleans the cornices regularly.
I sort out most of the kids artwork as soon as they come home with them so didn’t have much to do here except to sort out those in my daughter’s room which has been done
ooh thats so great to have him helping 🙂
Am running a bit behind ! Cornices done. I sorted a small pile of art work recently but the bulk of it is filed somewhere in the depths of my wardrobe:) I’ll sort it properly when we do wardrobes next weeK 🙂
