Clean – Bathrooms
Aah the bathrooms, if neglected they become quite grotty. The key to the bathroom is to routinely clean it which will then reduce the amount of scrubbing you will need to do. I clean my bathrooms each week and wipe over them daily.
Cleaning task
Today’s cleaning task is to do the following in the bathroom:

When my kids were younger there were mornings that my kids would rush brushing their teeth, I check that they have brushed well and if not they have to brush again. There was a stage that this was happening far too often so I created a chart (I love charts!!). I use these charts to mark off if they have brushed their teeth well, at the end of the week it is acknowledged and rewarded in something as simple as picking what movie we watch or which board game to play.
Brushing teeth charts are available in my shop. Click here to download

Declutter – Top of Bathroom Vanity
Note: Please don’t declutter or organise your vanity cupboards, this is planned for another day.
Remove as much as you can from your bathroom vanity to make it look tidier and easier for you to clean. I have always loved this caddy which we used as a toothbrush holder in the kids bathroom. It suctioned to the mirror to make it easier to wipe the bench. This holder was purchased from woolworths (can usually be found hanging in random aisles).

I try to keep the top of my bathroom vanity clutter free. Keeping handwash, toothbrush/toothpaste, makeup remover wipes.

Organise – Shower caddy
In the pre task challenges I got you to create a shower caddy, today I wanted to share with you why the shower caddy is separate to the cleaning caddy.
I adore my hubby, he has always cleaned our shower as I am very sensitive to a lot of chemicals. To make it easier for him I created the shower caddy which ideally needs to be a plastic peg basket as it goes in the shower with you and will get wet, the peg baskets have holes in the bottom for easy water drainage. I purchased the basket above from Howards Storage World a few years ago (it’s no longer in stock), however you can purchase peg baskets from most department stores like Big W and Target or even the local discount stores.
Over the past few years I have learnt that it’s not necessary to use chemicals in the bathroom, that vinegar/bicarb solution with a toothbrush or strong grout brush works wonders. So I have been able to clean the shower more often. I don’t necessarily clean it on a certain day, just a day each week that I know I have the time to spend a few extra minutes in there. It stays in the shower until the caddy and contents are dry and then I put it away in the evening.

New Habit – Clear and wipe your bathroom vanity
While you are brushing your teeth, put away all items left on your vanity. Once finished wipe your vanity bench and sink. I keep an absorbent cloth in my vanity cupboard. Wipe the vanity bench and sink each or every second day, rinse out the cloth and it dries overnight.

5 Minutes Only – Wash the lines on your clothes line
Wash the lines on your clothes line, removing all the dust and dirt build up.

Finished this today and looking good. I had started some of the major clean in the bathrooms previously so not such a big job.
I’m loving having such a clean house and using vinegar instead of chemicals love also the sugar soap in a spray bottle thanks Kat
so much cheaper too Allison 🙂
Lovely to clean bathroom with non toxic stuff. I loved the fizz sound of bicarb, lemon and vinegar.
isn’t it satisfying 🙂
My bathroom seemed clean so I was amazed at how much dust and hair has been collected. Lovely and shiny now. I asked hubby to unscrew the toilet seats for me so I could clean the hinges properly. Mine was spotless. He says I need to aim more carefully in future. He has always had a good sense of humour. The men’s toilets really needed the clean.
it’s quite gross what is hidden under those seats isn’t it Judith 🙂
Am so pleased to have 1 very clean bathroom & 3 very clean toilets. I just have to finish off the ensuite .
blitzed it, loving how much you have gotten through!
Day 6 ✅
Just reading the tasks for today made me exhausted…lol….because the bathrooms were 100% dirty…
But I’m so proud of myself having completed it
Yay!!!
I noticed a screw in the bath tub drain trap and decided to unscrew it to get all the gunk out properly. Getting it out was easy…putting the drain trap assembly back was hardwork…took me 30mins at least …
Thanks a lot Kat for this course. I’ve not felt so productive in a while
oh Dorcas, you are so very welcome, I am so happy to be able help step you through the processes, it’s all your hard work and determination you should be proud of!
Haven’t manage to start yet. Had to help hubby finish his uni assignment, both kids back to school for the first time in over two years and preparing fora big interview tomorrow that will allow me to go back to work. All while preparing to move house. Will start on Wednesday. Not sure if I should jump I’m on the day or start at the beginning since I remember there to be a certain system to it, if I remember correctly from previous years.
Sounds like you have a lot going on Dominique, and aren’t you a wonderful wife for helping hubby with his assignment. Yes there is a method to my madness with the particular days. There is quite a few that have joined recently and just started Day 1, i’ll be here cheering you on 🙂
I have just completed today’s Challenge. I didn’t get to complete Day’s 4 & 5 as we were putting on an 80th birthday party for my Mum so I had a bit of other things to do. I am aiming to do a few things from those days maybe tonight and over the next few days. Thank you for the encouragement to really give the toilets a scrub down. We have 3 of them and it is easier to clean the bathrooms properly but I don’t find it as easy to scrub the toilets each week but just give them a quick clean, which really isn’t sufficient. My daughter came home from school and noticed them straight away 🙂 Thank you Kat.
Love this and that someone noticed, that’s always encouraging. I hope they can help you keep it tidy too!
I was also still in week 1 until the weekend. I spent a couple of hours ‘regrouping’ and looked ahead at the subsequent weeks to see if they required as much work as the first. It seems to me that the pace from Week 2 onwards is less intense and I’ve added some tasks from last week to subsequent weeks so I wont get behind or if i do I ‘ve decided not to feel guilty but to do as much as I can each day even if it takes 2days to complete some rooms..
I like that Jan, knowing how to balance it all. Yes the big jobs are mostly done in the first week, such as the kitchen and bedroom, then we concentrate on the smaller areas like the wardrobe, pantry and oven 🙂
I’m still in week 1. I was starting to panic that by signing up I’d added more to the work load I was already struggling with but something has to change because everywhere I look in the house I see work. I’ve now taken a breath and decided that even if it takes me 20 weeks it will improve my current situation and I will get there.
